Orthodontists and dentists are both in the oral health care field. Dentists have completed medical school and their post graduate training. An Orthodontist has followed the same path as a Dentist but also has to complete a 2 year residency program on orthodontics. Orthodontists specialize more on tooth alignment and dentists specialize on problems such as tooth decay and cavities.
